Mr. Steve Steffl, Middle School Educator of the Year!
Mrs. Sue Ford Clausen, St. John's School Principal

We are very proud to announce that Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest, Inc., has named St. John's School teacher, our very own Mr. Steve Steffl, as the Middle School Educator of the Year. In the adjacent photograph, Mr. Steffl (right) received this prestigious award from Mr. John Grieman on behalf of Junior Achievement.

For the last 16 years, Mr. Steffl has incorporated Junior Achievement in his 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes. Besides inviting the Junior Achievement program and volunteers into his classroom at St. John's School, Mr. Steffl also sees that  all of the students, kindergarten through 8th grade, have the opportunity to be involved in Junior Achievement.

Mr. Steffl works with Junior Achievement to confirm all of the necessary teacher and class information, and helps obtain and secure volunteers needed for the entire school. In the 2005 - 2006 school year alone, over 400 students from St. John's School participated in Junior Achievement.

Mr. Mark Dompierre, a long time Junior Achievement volunteer at St. John's School, shares Mr. Steffl's belief that it is very important for students to get real world experience, and Junior Achievement is a great resource and vehicle to provide it.

Congratulations, Mr. Steffl!

Scrapbooking Sessions at St. John's
Teresa Neuman, St. John's Elementary Faith Formation Coordinator

Do you enjoy scrapbooking? Taking the time to record wonderful events in your family's history or everyday life is a great gift to your family and generations to come.

Do you find it difficult to go to those impersonal scrapbooking stores where you don't know anyone? Do you just crave more time to indulge your hobby? Then St. John's is the place for you!

Once a month on a Friday, 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., we will meet in the upper level of the Parish Center to scrapbook. You can drop in at anytime. The cost is only $15 per session, and we will provide beverages and snacks. If you want, you can bring a potluck dish to share.

You can spread out in a relaxing, safe environment, meet new friends, or come with those you already know. Becky Olds, a "Creative Memories" Consultant, will be on hand with supplies to help you create terrific pages. She will be giving away door prizes at the scraps.

Here's how to win the door prizes (retail value between $15 - $20) at the monthly scrapbooking:

1) Pre-register with Teresa Neuman -  get one ticket.

2) Bring a family member or friend (not a member of the  parish) - get one ticket per person.

3) Pre-order any Creative Memories Products through  Becky's website, www.mycmsite.com/beckyolds, one  week prior to scrap night - get two tickets.

The remaining Friday night dates are October 13, November 17, December 15, January 19, February 16, and March 30.

Please RSVP, if possible, so we can set up and buy treats for those who are coming, by calling Teresa Neuman at (651) 633-1540, ext. 1234. We hope to see you...

Do You have St. John's in Your Will?

Did you know that when the time comes for you to leave this world for the next, you can continue your generous support by including St. John's in your will?

To do God's work, St. John's must persevere to:

J Administer the sacraments of God's grace

J Inspire through liturgies, music, and the arts

J Nurture our children in the parish preschool

J Educate our children in the parish grade school

J Provide faith formation opportunities for the entire family

J Comfort one another in pastoral ministries

J Empower others with social justice programs

In other words, you will be fulfilling the Church's call to perform works of mercy. The corporal works of mercy are: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, comfort the imprisoned, visit the sick, and bury the dead. The spiritual works of mercy are admonish sinners, instruct the uninformed, counsel the doubtful, comfort the sorrowful, be patient with those in error, forgive offenses, and pray for the living and the dead.

It's never too late to make a difference in this world, even if you're living in another...
especially if you have a will.

To learn more, please call Bob Mike, (651) 633-8333, ext. 1215.
