The tradition continues...
Yes, it's true; I have agreed to take on the responsibility of coordinating the Annual Turkey Dinner at St. John's. I don't think I've lost my mind, but we'll see how I am on Monday after the:
Annual Turkey Dinner Sunday, November 5 11:00 a.m. - it's gone!
As you know, after many years of coordinating the Annual Turkey Dinner, Bev Aplikowski and Loretta Witkowski have decided it was time to turn the "big spoon" over to someone else.
For those of you who've had any contact with Bev and Loretta, you know that they are both very good at the art of persuasion - it's hard to say no to them. So when I was asked if I would be the Turkey Dinner Coordinator, I knew that I had no choice but to say yes. Besides, I think that it will be great fun.
It's an intense three days. There is much prep and set up work to do on Friday and Saturday to get ready for Sunday, November 5, when the serving begins at 11 a.m. The price for the Turkey Dinner continues to be a terrific value. It's only $7 for adults and $3.50 for children under 10 years of age.
It's a terrific tradition made possible by those of you who volunteer your time and energy to make it happen, and by those of you who keep coming back, year after year, to support the parish and enjoy a delicious Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings.
It sometimes happens that when there is a change of leadership, some people use it as a reason to stop volunteering. I know some of you have been helping with the Turkey Dinner for many years. I hope that you will continue to do so. I certainly respect your decision to step down and let somebody else have a chance, but I first ask that you don't. However, if you are thinking of stepping down, please wait another year so replacements can be found.
For those of you who are looking for somewhere to volunteer your time and talents, the Turkey Dinner is just for you. There are a variety of jobs to do, everything from carving turkeys, to making coleslaw, to cutting pies, to waiting on tables, to working the serving window, to washing dishes and cleaning up the hall. Confirmation students are welcome!

The people are great, and most of all, it's fun. It raises some money and helps to build up our Saint John's Community. The parish experience reaches a new level when you know those who worship next to you.
If you are a new volunteer, or haven't helped for awhile and would like to volunteer, there will be sign up sheets in St. Paul Plaza after the weekend Masses. Or, you can always just call me, Deacon Rod, and I will be happy to sign you up, (651) 633-8333, ext. 1298.
For those of you who have volunteered in the past, you can expect a phone call asking you to continue the tradition.
Thanks for your help!
P.S. The tradition of donating a pie and $1.00 continues...
