Editor's Note:
Following is a brief interview by Mary Jasicki, St. John's Print Room Manager, featuring Eleanore Semanko, one of St. John's many super volunteers. I personally know Eleanore, whom I refer to as "Ellie Mae." Eleanore is one of those unexpected, pleasant surprises that God occasionally drops into your life. She is as dedicated (or more!) to her volunteer work in St. John's Print Room as paid employees are to their job responsibilities. Besides that, she is cheerful, loves to share a laugh, and, most importantly, she makes sure that I have plenty of chocolates to keep my sweet tooth happy everyday. The photograph to the right is of Eleanore at work in the Print Room. ...
To "Ellie Mae," and all of St. John's many volunteers, on behalf of the parish staff, I thank all of you for generously sharing your time and talents. God bless you.
Why do you volunteer at St. John's?
I like being a member of St. John's, and I like the team of volunteers that I've met. I began volunteering after suddenly having extra time on my hands. I started when you suggested that I help once a month with St. John's newsletter, The Forerunner. Now I help more often, and I like the feeling that I'm doing something worthwhile. (Editor's note: Eleanore is the maternal aunt of Mary Jasicki, Print Room Manager. Mary Jasicki is more commonly known by staff and parishioners as Mary J.)
What keeps you at St. John's? Is it the pay?
Are you kidding? You can't afford me! I'm working for the Lord. You know, family is important to me. I enjoy spending time with you and socializing with others. Being at St. John's has introduced me to new friends. I feel a strong sense of fellowship.
When you are not gracing St. John's with your presence, what are you doing instead?
I love spending time with my family and friends. I have a daughter in Alaska, and I have a son who is a lawyer in the Twin Cities. I play cards, get together with neighbors, and I am blessed with a group of companions whom I have known for over 60 years. Many from our original gang are not with us anymore, including my husband, but we have shared so much for so long. They are truly a blessing in my life. ...
